Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is part of the blue-green spiral-shaped single-celled algae. It grows in fresh water and is very hardy. This alga consists of helical, spiral-shaped filaments, and its coloration ranges from dark green, due to the presence of chlorophyll, to blue due to a pigment called phycocyanin.
