Useful information

What is Rosehip?

The dog rose is a thorny shrub, with very ancient origins, it is part of the Rosaceae family and its botanical name is Rosa lutetiana. It is also called "thorn rose" or "wild rose" as it grows spontaneously all over the world and adapts well to any terrain and climate.

It can grow at various altitudes, from sea level to the mountains. Rosehip berries have always been widely used in cooking, today they are also increasingly appreciated for their properties.

Dog rose: the plant

The Dog Rose is one of the species of wild roses, in fact, it can grow spontaneously in the countryside, hills or mountains.

Also called "wild rose" because it is able to adapt even to the most inaccessible places, at the edges of the woods, dirt roads or on uncultivated fields, as long as it is sunny and the clayey soil.

The flowers are simple and are composed of five petals, the color can vary from white to fuchsia, to pale pink, they are not very fragrant and flower around May-July. The berries, or rose hips, are the false fruit of the plant; the real fruit, the achenes, are the yellow seeds found inside and are covered with fine hair.

What are the properties of Rosehip?

Rosehip is considered very interesting for its content of Vitamin C. Not only because it is present in large quantities, but above all because it is present in a form that is assimilated by our body in a simple way. Vitamin C contributes to the maintenance of the normal function of the immune system even during and after intense physical effort, it increases the absorption of iron  and contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

It also contributes to the normal formation of collagen for normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, skin, teeth and gums. Finally, vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, contributes to normal energy metabolism, nervous system and normal psychological function. Furthermore, dog rose has antioxidant properties, has a supporting and restorative action and helps regulate intestinal transit.

Flavor and texture of Hagenbutten

The Rosehip berries, the Rosehips or "hagenbutten", from which our powder is obtained, come from organic farming. The Rosehip is a red berry and has a fleshy consistency.

It is edible but sour and not very appetizing fresh, in fact, it is difficult to find it on the market as it is, while it is now widespread on the market in the form of supplements and powder.

Our organic rosehip has a dark ocher colour, thanks to a balanced ratio between the peel, the pulp and the seeds of the berries, typical of when the whole berry is ground, and is therefore more nutritious. On the contrary, when the color is more yellowish it means that there is a greater percentage of seeds inside the powder. The flavor of the rosehip powder is slightly sour (similar to that of citrus fruits) and fruity. The processing method is very important: the NaturaleBio dog rose is processed at low temperatures to preserve all its nutrients intact and maintain high levels of Vitamin C.

BENE
