Moringa, how long to take it?

Today we will talk about one of the most nutritious plants in the world and entirely edible: let's find out more about Moringa, how long to take it, how and in what quantities to consume it.

Moringa is a species that belongs to theMoringaceae family, native to India and Pakistan. Today the natural distribution area is a good part of the tropical and equatorial belt.

Also known as “the horseradish tree” due to the acrid and pungent taste of its roots, it is a plant that grows very quickly and all parts of which can be consumed, from the seeds to the leaves.

Nutritional characteristicsof moringa

It is an extremely nutritious plant which is why there is growing interest from this point of view.

Moringa contains a high number of nutrients, vitamins and mineral salts and is also rich in antioxidants.

Not only that, its protein content is also important since it is complete, i.e. the plant contains the entire range of essential amino acids required for protein needs of the organism.

Essential amino acids are those that must necessarily be consumed through food, because our body is not able to produce them.

This makes Moringa oleifera the only plant known today with these characteristics.

Furthermore, moringa has a high content of fibre, vitamin A, calcium and iron, find out more.

Why take Moringa

Moringa certainly falls into thecategory of Superfood, because its content of nutrients useful for health has a greater density than other foods.

Its nutrient content is so high that even a small quantity of powdered leaves can cover the recommended daily requirement of many nutrients needed by the body.

The richness of this plant is certainly contained in its leaves. Moringa leaves contain more protein than eggs and about double that of cow's milk.

Thanks to its important nutritional values, it is thought that moringa could be used to try to solve the problem of malnutrition in developing countries. Malnutrition is a very serious problem, especially for pregnant women and their children in the first few months of life.

Lowell Fuglie, a great scholar of this plant, is the author of some books including “The miracle tree: the multiple attributes of Moringa”, which talks about Moringa as the basis for a nutrition program. He claims it is useful not only for preventing and treating malnutrition in pregnant women, but above all during breastfeeding, because it is able to increase the quality of milk especially at the protein level.

How to take Moringa?

Moringa leaves powder are a pure and natural food.

Its smell is similar to hay, like a freshly mowed lawn, and the flavor is slightly pungent, so it can give a slight spicy sensation on the palate.

Moringa powder is quite fine, free of stems and veins, and is soluble in water or other liquids without leaving sediment. By sediment, we mean that there is no presence of stems and leaf veins within the dust.

This makes it ideal to add to smoothies and drinks, but also to both sweet and savory recipes.

Moringa, for how long to take it and in what quantity?

There are no scientific studies on the matter and since it is a food there is no right dosage.

But it must still be clarified that moringa, unlike other superfoods, represents a real food rich in nutrients.

It is important to give the body time to get used to it, so it is best to start with a small dose and gradually increase.

It is recommended to take approximately one teaspoon per day even every day.

A level teaspoon of Moringa is equivalent to approximately 2 grams, while a full teaspoon is equivalent to approximately 4-5 grams.
