FAQ

Useful Information

What Is Maca?

Maca is a plant very similar to a turnip, belonging to the Brassicaceae family. Its botanical name is Lepidium meyenii, and it originates in the Andes.

Its roots are rich in important and essential nutrients for the health of our body, which is why Maca is considered a Superfood.

The Origin of Maca

The maca plant is a small herbaceous plant, considered perennial due to the formation of its storage roots.

It grows in the Andean Cordillera of Peru and Bolivia, at altitudes ranging between 2,500 and 5,000 meters.

It thrives in harsh conditions—very poor and rocky soils with adverse weather: strong winds and extreme temperature fluctuations, with freezing nights and intense sunlight during the day.

What Are the Properties of Maca?

Maca is a source of calcium, which contributes to normal energy metabolism and muscle function. Calcium is also necessary for the maintenance of normal bones.

Maca is high in iron, which supports normal cognitive function and oxygen transport in the body. Iron helps reduce tiredness and fatigue and supports the normal function of the immune system.

Maca is a source of riboflavin, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

In addition, maca is low in fat and salt.

Flavor and Texture

Our maca comes from organic farming. It appears as a yellow powder with a sweetish flavor and a very distinctive and pungent taste, ranging between bitter and spicy.

Its taste can be softened by mixing it with other ingredients.

How to Consume Maca?

Organic maca powder is considered the best way to include this valuable food in your diet.

Maca root powder can be dissolved in water, drinks, milk, and smoothies, or added to doughs for cakes and cookies.

Recipes with Maca

Maca powder can be consumed in the following ways:

  • In yogurt or milk
  • As an ingredient in homemade desserts
  • In herbal teas and teas
  • In smoothies or fruit juices
  • In the preparation of cookies
  • In salads or as a seasoning
  • In broths or soups

What Is the Process of Gelatinized Maca?

Since the 1990s, this processing method for maca has been introduced. The roots are sun-dried and then undergo gelatinization, which makes maca powder easier to digest (thanks to the absence of starch).

Gelatinized maca is easier to digest, especially for those with sensitive stomachs.

Its nutrients are more concentrated, and some, such as metabolites and minerals, are enhanced.

Gelatinized maca is also more water-soluble, making it easier to dissolve in water or in beverages and smoothies.

NaturaleBio produces and sells Gelatinized Organic Maca Powder.

What Is the Difference Between Maca Capsules and Powder?

Absolutely none.

The production process for organic maca powder begins with harvesting the root. Maca appears as a yellow powder with a sweetish flavor and a very distinctive and pungent taste.

The difference between powder and capsules lies only in an additional step: filling cellulose capsules with the same maca powder.

The only real difference is in the method of consumption and dosage:

  • Capsules are more convenient to use as a supplement
  • Powder is more practical for culinary use in recipes
