There is a reason why they call it “the food of the gods", and it doesn't just depend on its delicious flavour: Cocoa is good for you! Science says so: let's investigate all the nutritional properties of this incredible superfood.
Cocoa powder from raw beans, if appropriately processed at low temperatures, is one of the natural substances with the highest concentration of polyphenols, such as anthocyanins and catechins.
Not only that, it is proven that its action is tonic and energizing, stimulating for the nervous system and protective for the cardiovascular system.
Cocoa, natural and obviously not added, naturally contains very few sugars and lots of fibre, a good amount of protein and has a high content of mineral salts such as magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and potassium, truly fundamental for the well-being of the body and mind.
The natural stimulants contained in cocoa, such as theobromine, if taken in moderation, are very energizing and help concentration.
Furthermore, the consumption of this product would be directly related to the production of dopamine, a substance that our brain releases together with sensations of well-being.
So, in a certain sense, one could say that this superfood is also an ally of our mood!
Another plus point, not to be underestimated, is the unmistakable mix of its perfume and flavour: a true comfort food, capable of making you immediately feel more relaxed, which evokes pleasant memories and sensations.
Of course, you should never abuse any food, even the tastiest or most beneficial.
Cocoa, in fact, contains theobromine and caffeine, neurostimulant substances that can increase states of anxiety and nervousness.
Not only that, it is also a rather caloric food, so abusing it may not be a good idea, especially in its processed forms such as the much-loved chocolate.
