All you need to know about Organic Cacao Powder

All about Cocoa

Cocoa is what Linnaeus called Theobroma, from Theos meaning “god” and broma “food,” or food of the gods. The richness of this plant is surely contained mainly in the beans enclosed in its fruit (cabosse). Broad beans can be eaten raw, or they can be ground into grains or powder depending on the type of consumption.

Does NaturaleBio Cocoa Powder contain added sugar?

No! Our cocoa powder is 100% pure and organic, with no added sugars, preservatives, or artificial ingredients. Just rich, natural cocoa.

What’s the difference between cocoa and raw cacao powder?

Cocoa powder is made from roasted cacao beans, giving it a deeper flavor and making it ideal for baking. Raw cacao is less processed and retains more nutrients, but has a more bitter taste.

Is cocoa powder good for health?

Yes! Cocoa powder is naturally rich in antioxidants and minerals like magnesium and iron. When used in moderation, it can be a healthy addition to a balanced diet.

Why can the texture of cacao powder vary slightly between batches?

Cacao powder is a natural product made from whole cacao beans, and small variations in texture can occur between batches due to differences in harvest conditions and processing. These natural variations do not affect the quality, safety, or purity of the product. All batches are carefully tested to ensure they meet the same high-quality standards.

Cacao vs cocoa: what is the difference?

The difference between cacao vs cocoa lies mainly in the processing method. Cacao is typically minimally processed and not alkalised, while cocoa is often treated with alkaline salts (Dutch processing) to create a milder flavour and darker colour. Our product is cacao, meaning it is not alkalised and retains its natural profile, with a more intense, slightly bitter taste and naturally occurring compounds.

Is NaturaleBio cacao powder defatted?

NaturaleBio cacao powder is partially defatted, with a natural fat content of around 10–12%. During production, part of the cocoa butter is gently removed to obtain a finer powder that mixes more easily and has a smooth, homogeneous texture. This process helps improve solubility while preserving the cacao’s natural flavour and properties.

Can the texture of cacao powder vary over time?

Yes. Cacao powder is a natural product, and small variations in texture, colour or taste can occur over time due to differences in harvest conditions and processing. These natural variations do not affect the quality, safety or purity of the product. All batches are carefully tested to ensure they meet the same high-quality standards.

Are NaturaleBio products tested for heavy metals?

Yes. All NaturaleBio products are regularly tested by accredited laboratories to ensure they comply with strict European Union safety standards. In the case of cacao powder, levels of naturally occurring heavy metals such as cadmium and lead are well below the maximum limits set by the EU, confirming that the product is safe for consumption.
