All you need to know about Ceremonial Grade Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder

What is Matcha?

It is a powdered green tea produced in Japan. Used as a tea for drinking (Ceremonial Grade) or as an ingredient in recipes (Culinary Grade). MATCHA is produced in Japan.

What grade of Matcha is yours?

Ours is a Ceremonial Grade, intended to be prepared as a drinking tea. See method of preparation below.

What is the difference between Premium Grade, Culinary Grade, and Ceremonial Grade?

The Culinary (lower quality) grade is used in recipes and as an ingredient in cooking, Matcha Premium is of higher quality than Culinary, and is an excellent alternative to Ceremonial Matcha if you want to add to milk, yogurt, smoothies or in cooking. Finally, the Ceremonial grade, which is the highest quality, is intended to be brewed traditionally as a drinking tea and is sourced from finely stone-ground, first-crop leaves.

How is it prepared?

Preparation of traditional Matcha consists of adding 80 ml of water at a temperature between 60° and 75° (not boiling temperature) and 1 serving (1g) of Matcha. Shake quickly using a traditional Matcha Wisk or a standard kitchen whisk.

Is ceremonial matcha shade-grown and tested for radioactivity?

Yes. Our ceremonial matcha is shade-grown for approximately one month before harvest, a traditional practice that enhances flavour and colour. In addition, the product undergoes radioactivity testing to ensure it complies with strict safety standards.

Which harvest is used for ceremonial and premium matcha?

Our ceremonial matcha is made exclusively from the first harvest. Our premium matcha is produced using first or second harvest leaves, selected to ensure a balanced flavour and versatility for everyday use.

What is the difference between matcha and green tea?

Matcha and green tea both come from the same tea plant (Camellia sinensis), but they are consumed differently. Matcha is made from finely ground green tea leaves, so the whole leaf is consumed when drinking it. Traditional green tea is prepared by infusing the leaves in water and then removing them. This difference affects flavour, colour and how the tea is enjoyed, but both are forms of green tea.

The Ritual

Traditional matcha is not rushed. It’s a quiet moment, done by hand, the way it has been for centuries.

Preparation time: 7 minutes

What You’ll Need

· Matcha
· Chawan, the bowl where everything begins
· Chashaku, the bamboo spoon used to measure
· Chasen, the bamboo whisk that creates the foam
· Hot water at 75–80°C (never boiling)

Each tool has a purpose. Nothing is accidental.
The Preparation

· Warm the tools
Heat the chawan and briefly soak the chasen to soften the bamboo.

· Sift the matcha
Use 1–2 scoops, sifted to ensure a smooth, lump-free texture.

· Add the water
Pour 60–70 ml of hot water; gentle heat preserves the matcha’s character.

· Whisk
Move the chasen quickly in a soft “W” motion until a fine foam forms.

· Enjoy
Pour in a cup or drink directly from the bowl. No distractions. Just presence.
