FAQ

Useful Information

What is Gyokuro?

Gyokuro is the most prized loose-leaf green tea in Japan . Grown in Japan, it has leaves that are bright green with marine hues, thanks to the chlorophyll content, and have a characteristic needle shape.

Gyokuro is one of the most prized teas in the world, in fact, it is also called " precious dew " or " jade dew " . Its infusion has a pale dew color, slightly cloudy yellow-green and has a strong umami taste and a rich aroma.

The Origin of Gyokuro

The cultivation of Gyokuro tea, as in the case of Matcha tea, requires that the tea plantations are completely covered with special tarpaulins or straw mats about 2-3 weeks before harvesting. The plantations are of a variety of Camellia sinensis called Yabukita .

Grown in Japan, especially in Kirishima in southern Japan. Kirishima is an ideal place for growing organic tea , because there is often thick fog, and the temperature difference is extreme. This climate condition is very favorable for Japanese teas.

How Gyokuro is grown

NaturalBio Gyokuro green tea comes from the first harvest that takes place in April , in this way the tea leaves, spending a period in the shade, are enriched with chlorophyll. This phase is called " shading " and is necessary because direct sunlight would reduce photosynthesis in the young leaf buds.

Being indoors the plant produces more chlorophyll, this contributes to its characteristic intense green color and its delicate and sweet and not very astringent flavor of this tea. After harvesting the oxidation process is stopped immediately, in fact, the leaves are steamed for a maximum of 2 minutes to preserve all their beneficial properties . They are then dried and passed inside a machine that gives the leaves their classic needle-like appearance .

Taste and consistency of Gyokuro

The best Gyokuro comes from organic farming . Gyokuro tea leaves take on their typical bright green color with marine shades, thanks to the chlorophyll content and have a characteristic needle shape.

After infusion, however, the drink takes on a pale , dewy, yellow-green, slightly cloudy color . Chlorophyll also has another function: it contributes to the perfect complexity of the taste of this drink, characterized by vegetal notes and a very particular sweet nuance.

First a blend of vegetal notes , soft in the mouth and slightly sweet, like a tender and juicy spring grass warmed by the sun. Then the freshness of slightly more sour and astringent notes , with an almost imperceptible hint of bitterness on the finish. All this ensures a particular and special aroma and taste with every sip and a refreshing aftertaste.

Good product

It is good value for money, as Gyokuro is a rather expensive tea depending on the vintage, this is a bright light green brew with slight sweet notes of sea and seaweed. It is important not to overdo the timing and temperatures, I recommend between 70 and 75°C.
