Create Your Own Muesli for a Perfect Breakfast
Muesli is one of the most beloved breakfast products: a mixture of cereals, nuts, and other beneficial elements, which can be combined with hot and cold drinks, yogurt, and fruit purees for a really good, healthy, and complete breakfast.
A mix of wellness that you can create at home with some care. Or, to have quality ready at the click of a button, you can order your personalized muesli from sites like IlTuoMuesli, which allows you to combine cereals, dried and dehydrated fruit, and superfoods like our cocoa nibs, to create your perfect recipe.
The origins of muesli
Muesli or Birchermüesli originated in Zurich in the early 1900s thanks to Swiss doctor and nutritionist Maximilian Bircher-Benner, from whom it partially takes its name.
The German word “mues” means puree or, indeed, “mix,” because the original recipe of the pioneer of dietetics combined rolled oats, lemon juice, grated apple, and ground nuts.
Initially, it was meant to be a balanced breakfast idea dedicated to vegetarians, but it soon became popular and arrived on all grocery store shelves.
The benefits of muesli for breakfast
This mix, both the original version by Dr. Bircher-Benner and all the hundreds of possible personalized combinations, has the advantage of offering a healthy, very balanced, and always varied breakfast.
In fact, the base is typically cereals, especially rolled oats, which have high satiating power and are an excellent source of plant proteins. Not only that, but nuts provide good fats, while fresh or dehydrated fruit guarantees a good supply of sugars and instant energy.
Adding the properties of superfoods, then, makes the product even more complete. Cocoa nibs, for example, provide a beneficial supply of fiber and minerals such as magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus.
All with a varied and tasty texture, mixing crunchy and soft components, even better if dipped in a colorful açai bowl, yogurt, or your favorite plant-based drink.
Are muesli and granola the same thing?
When people think of muesli, they often confuse it with granola: the difference between the two products is, however, very marked.
Muesli is a mixture of cereals, dried and dehydrated fruit, cocoa nibs, and coconut flakes, which is consumed raw and natural.
In this sense, just combine all the desired ingredients in an airtight glass or tin jar – to ensure preservation – with a correct proportion of the various elements. The cereals, which are the base, should make up most of the product, while high-calorie elements such as nuts or raisins should be a minimal amount of the total.
Conversely, granola is an American-inspired preparation and, although it has roughly the same ingredients as muesli, it has a different texture because it is mixed with a sweet part – maple syrup or honey, for example – and then baked in the oven. The result is a sort of “slab” that is then broken by hand to obtain the characteristic and delicious chunks.
